What an Applicant Does When She Thinks I'm Not Looking | Part II

Two ladies chosen to be deliberately different, a dimly lit café, and in the end an umbrella held all the way to the car. The answer to yesterday's teaser.

We met at Lupin in Stuttgart . I like intimate cafés with dimmed lighting, music that stays in the background, and above all staff who take privacy seriously. Lupin is one of them.

A few guests had settled close to us. That wouldn't matter over dinner, but it does during an interview. When our voices dropped, the owner noticed himself and made room for us without my having to ask. That's what I value in hosts who care about more than my bill. They want you to feel at ease.

Now, the answer to yesterday's teaser. I chose the two ladies deliberately so that their ages were far apart. I wanted to see what happens when two people sit at one table who have little in common on paper. I was right. The conversation flowed, both were completely natural, and what looked like few shared interests quickly became an exchange between equals. At the end I had forgotten my umbrella, and one of the applicants held hers over me all the way to the car. A small gesture. It told me more than some answers do.

How someone treats others isn't visible in a one-to-one conversation, but in company. Looks and presence are not what matters most to me here.

I like to let every lady sleep on it for a night. Still, I'm very confident that we'll soon welcome two new faces at PURE. More about the ladies next week. I can hardly wait to introduce them to you.

Discreetly yours,
Lena
